One of the three Prizes in Category 1 - Conservation has been awarded to the conservation of the Southern façade of Horní Hrad ( Upper Castle ) of the Český Krumlov State Castle in the Czech Republic. This project establishes new standards for Czech monument care and is appreciated as an excellent example of a respectful approach to conservation in Europe. The historic building's original fabric has been treated as an irreplaceable bearer of authenticity and an object of historic documentation. This approach transfers conservation ethics and methodology previously only used in the field of works of art, to the scale of a whole façade and even to that of an urban landscape in which the façade is a highly important element. The project has been realised using all means of preserving historical traces and the re-introduction of traditional artisan building skills and materials.

L’un des trois Prix dans laCatégorie 1 - Conservation a été décerné à la sauvegarde de la façade sud de Horní Hrad (château du haut) du château d’État Český Krumlov en République tchèque. Ce projet établit de nouveaux standards pour la préservation des monuments tchèques et est considéré comme un excellent exemple d’une approche respectueuse de la conservation en Europe. La structure d’origine de ce bâtiment historique a été traitée comme un tenant irremplaçable d’authenticité et une source de documentation historique. Cette approche transpose l’éthique et la méthodologie de la conservation, auparavant seulement utilisées dans le domaine des œuvres d'art, à l’échelle d’une façade entière et même jusqu’à celle d'un paysage urbain dans lequel la façade constitue un élément insigne. Le projet a été réalisé en utilisant tous les moyens visant à préserver les traces historiques et en réintroduisant des techniques et des matériaux de construction de l’artisanat traditionnel.
