A Medal in Category 1 - Conservation has been given to the restoration of the church of Saint Julien l'Hospitalier-Saint Blaise in Longsols, France. The restoration of this remarkable example of 15 th century wooden church architecture in the Champagne region, an area sometimes qualified as being a backwater, not only safeguarded an important building, but also contributed to the region's identity and image. By removing a lowered ceiling and exposing the detailing of the wooden supporting structure, the atmosphere of the church's interior was spectacularly revived. Great effort was put in retaining the patina of the exposed wood and great care was given to the restoration of the church’s collection of art works. The church again serves its religious purpose alongside being used for concerts and exhibitions.
The project is highly appreciated for the outstanding restoration of both the exterior and interior of this great example of vernacular architecture and for respectfully retaining and restoring the building's authentic character.

La restauration de cet exemple remarquable d’une église à l’architecture en bois du XVe siècle en Champagne, une région que l’on tient parfois comme peu digne d’intérêt, n’a pas seulement sauvegardé un bâtiment d’envergure, mais a également contribué à renforcer l’identité et l’image de la région. En supprimant un plafond abaissé et en exposant ainsi les détails de la structure de soutènement en bois, l’atmosphère de l’intérieur de l’église a été restituée de façon spectaculaire. De grands efforts ont été faits pour conserver la patine du bois exposé et des soins méticuleux ont été apportés à la restauration de la collection d’œuvres d’art de l’église. L’église sert à nouveau sa mission religieuse tout en accueillant par ailleurs des concerts et des expositions.
