A Medal in Category 4 - Education, Training and Awareness Raising has been given to the Jugendbauhütten of the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz e.V., the German Foundation for Monument Protection. The basic idea of this project is to introduce young people to Europe 's cultural heritage through practical conservation work, thus making them aware of the importance of preserving this inheritance. The volunteers work on actual restoration sites, where they undergo a year of practical and theoretical training, encompassing all disciplines related to monument conservation. In addition to acquiring the requisite skills and expertise in the métier of historic conservation, the youngsters witness firsthand the tangible success of their work, thus strengthening their identification with the task. Furthermore, their experience of working as part of a group fosters the youths’ sense of community.
The project is admired for its educational quality. The Jugendbauhütten have become the model for other European countries.

Une Médaille dans la catégorie 4 - Éducation, Formation et Sensibilisation a été donnée aux Jugendbauhütten de la Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz e.V.,la fondation allemande pour la protection des monuments. L’idée à la base de ce projet est d'initier des jeunes au patrimoine culturel de l'Europe par le biais de travaux pratiques de conservation, les sensibilisant de cette façon à l'importance de la sauvegarde de ce patrimoine. Les bénévoles travaillent sur d'authentiques chantiers de restauration, où ils suivent une année de formation pratique et théorique, laquelle recouvre toutes les disciplines liées à la conservation des monuments. Non contents d'acquérir les compétences et l’expertise requises dans le métier de la conservation historique, les jeunes sont les témoins de première main de la réussite tangible de leur travail, renforçant ainsi leur identification à la tâche. De surcroît, cette expérience de travail en groupe encourage le sens de la communauté des jeunes. Le projet est admiré pour sa qualité pédagogique. Les Jugendbauhütten sont devenus le modèle d’autres pays européens.
