A Medal in Category 2 - Research has been given to the ‘Somlóvár Park Conservation Plan’ by Gábor Alföldy, landscape architect and garden historian from Hungary. The Conservation Plan included research into the history and the present state of Somlóvár Park, which in the 19 th century was considered one of the most important landscape gardens in Hungary. Various historical sources have been uncovered and analysed and were used to conceive a detailed chronology of the park, which was followed by an assessment of all the elements of the park. The research resulted in a detailed master plan with proposals for the conservation and future maintenance of the park.
The Somlóvár Park Conservation Plan is valued as the first in depth study of this important garden. The plan introduced and adapted the methodology of a conservation plan to a country where this type of research was never used for gardens before. It is an outstanding example for other sites in Hungary and the wider region.

Une Médaille dans la Catégorie 2 - Recherche a été donnée au ‘Plan de conservation du Parc Somlóvár’ de Gábor Alföldy, architecte paysagiste et historien des jardins de Hongrie. Le plan de conservation comprenait des recherches dans l’histoire et l’état actuel du Parc Somlóvár, qui était considéré au XIXe siècle comme l’un des plus importants jardins paysagers de Hongrie. Diverses sources historiques ont été mises à jour et analysées et ont été utilisées pour concevoir une chronologie détaillée du parc, qui a été suivie d’une évaluation de toutes les composantes du parc. Les recherches ont abouti à un plan directeur assorti de propositions pour la conservation et l’entretien ultérieur du parc.
Le Plan de conservation du Parc Somlóvár est apprécié comme la première étude approfondie consacrée à ce jardin d’importance. Le plan a introduit et adapté la méthodologie d’un plan de conservation dans un pays où ce type de recherche n'avait jamais été appliqué auparavant aux jardins. C'est un exemple remarquable pour d'autres sites en Hongrie et les régions environnantes.
