A Medal in Category 1 - Conservation has been given to the conservation of The Grange in Ramsgate, United Kingdom. The Grange is the house which the influential architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-52) built for himself and his family. After the death of Pugin’s sons, who further developed the design of the house, The Grange suffered and deteriorated.
In 1997, The Landmark Trust acquired the buildings and, after thorough research, restored it with its furnishings, to a state appropriate to the 1840s when the Pugin family were in residence, noting the unique significance in architectural history of The Grange’s designer and first resident. The Grange, in accordance with The Landmark Trust policy, is available for holiday rental and has public open days throughout the year.
The project is admired for the painstaking detail of the restoration, in particular of the interior, and for the building's enlightened new role.

En 1997, le Landmark Trust a acheté les bâtiments et, à l'issue de recherches approfondies, a procédé à leur restauration avec son ameublement dans un état convenant aux années 1840 quand la famille Pugin y habitait, soulignant l’importance unique du concepteur et du premier habitant de The Grange au sein de l'histoire de l'architecture. The Grange, conformément à la politique du Landmark Trust, peut être loué pendant les vacances et il est ouvert au public certains jours tout au long de l'année.
Le projet est admiré pour les détails minutieux de la restauration, de l’intérieur en particulier, et pour le nouveau rôle éclairé du bâtiment.
