Visit of the Folks Museum

The Norsk Folkemuseum is Norway’s largest museum of cultural history. With collections from all over the country, the museum shows in a very attractive way how people lived in Norway from 1500 to the present. The 160 buildings of this open-air Museum give a splendid overview of the different regions in Norway, the different time periods, as well as differences between town and country and between social classes. The Gol Stave Church, dating from 1200, is one of five medieval buildings at the museum. Contemporary history is presented through exhibitions and documentation projects. Permanent indoor exhibitions include folk art, folk costumes, toys and Sami culture. The museum also has a long tradition as a research institution with an interdisciplinary research staff in the fields of ethnology, folkloristic, cultural history, anthropology and art history.
