In the months following the European Heritage Awards Ceremony in Madrid on 27 June 2006, local awards ceremonies are held across Europe in order to attract local public attention to the quality of the awarded heritage project and to promote their "power of example". They also seek to pay tribute to the whole team that had contributed to the realisation of the awarded project, from owners and architects to building contractors and craftsmen. During the ceremony a commemorative plaque is officially unveiled in the presence of representatives of Europa Nostra, national, regional and /or local authorities and the media.
