Sandra VAN LOCHEM, representing The Netherlands, 2005-2008

Ms van Lochem gained a Master’s degree in Historical Geography from the University of Utrecht in 1991. From 1991 to 1993 she worked as a consultant in Buro Maas, a Landscape Architecture Consultancy based in Zeist, where she was responsible for c onducting studies and evaluations for town and country planning in relation to cultural heritage, landscape and physical geography.

Since 1993, Ms van Lochem has been working as Senior Consultant at Natuurmonumenten - the Dutch Society for the Preservation of Nature - which numbers 950.000 members and owns 366 nature reserves (90.000 hectares) in the Netherlands, comprising cultural landscapes, historic buildings historic parks & gardens and archaeological sites. Ms van Lochem is involved in policy, advice and project management for conservation, restoration and rehabilitation in all aspects of landscape and cultural heritage. Internal and external advice, co-operation and negotiation are an important part of her work. Additional tasks are to advise on physical geography and project management in relation to natural subjects.

Ms van Lochem is also currently a Committee member of the NCM (Stichting Nationaal Contact Monumenten), of the Association for Landscape and Cultural Heritage in The Netherlands (Platform Landschap en Cultuurhistorie), of the National (Historic) Farmyards Foundation, and Member of the Municipal Advisory Committee for Monuments of Zeist (evaluating construction permits for the 1750 listed monuments in the municipality, including buildings, parks and archaeological sites). From 1989 to 1997 she was chairperson of the Society for Historical Geography in The Netherlands (Historisch-Geografische Vereniging Utrecht). Ms van Lochem is fluent in Dutch, English and German, and has a good knowledge of French.
