DEMOLITION OF THE BON SAUVEUR CLOISTER IN CAEN
jul 19
The last victim of the battle against uncontrolled development is the Bon Sauveur Cloister in Caen, a Normandy town in France. The mayor of Caen has not hesitated to sacrifice the last vestiges of history for the profit of real estate speculation. The Bon Sauveur Cloister was known for its role as a refuge and a hospital during the bombing of June 44.
Europa Nostra is appalled by the destruction of this historical landmark.
A local committee to stop the destruction could not stop such a blind decision. We can now only watch the disheartening video wiping out a bit of history and read more about this story. You can see the last photos of the cloister uploaded by a user on Flickr. If you happen to have more media coverage please do not hesitate to get in touch with us so that we can share it online.
