VIDEO INTERVIEWS WITH EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER ANDROULLA VASSILIOU AND MEP DORIS PACK

The European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Androulla Vassiliou, and Member of the European Parliament Doris Pack tell in video interviews of the importance, impact and relevance of saving and promoting Europe’s cultural heritage through restorations, education and other awareness raising initiatives, illustrated in winning projects of the EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards. Both EU officials attended the European Heritage Awards Ceremony in Istanbul on 10 June 2010.

 

"It was a very moving ceremony because you see in practice how people who care about cultural heritage take care and restore and preserve this cultural heritage for the sake of our future generations" said Mrs Vassiliou at the opening of the exhibition of past awards laureates at Sirkeci Station in Istanbul.

 

"I can only underline that the work of Europa Nostra is not done by anybody else, you are really needed and I am happy that the Commission had understood that long time ago" added Doris Pack at the Europa Nostra Forum at Tophane-i Amire Cultural Centre.

 

Both Androulla Vassiliou and Doris Pack joined on stage the Turkish Minister of Culture Ertugrul Günay, the Chairman of the Istanbul 2010 Executive Agency Şekib Avdagiç, EN Executive President Denis de Kergorlay and EN Secretary General Sneška Quaedvlieg - Mihailović for the handing of the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards ceremony that took place at Aya Irini in Istanbul on 10 June 2010.
