SANT'AMBROGIO CAR PARK: EUROPA NOSTRA WRITES TO THE MAYOR OF MILAN

Europa Nostra appealed to the Mayor of Milan Giuliano Pisapia, to stop the underground car park in the historical square of Piazza Sant'Ambrogio.


Recent discoveries of the sacred cemetery 'Coemeterium ad Martyres' following the car park related diggings, proves the extraordinary archaelogical value of the entire area surrounding Sant'Ambrogio. 


Executive President Denis de Kergorlay renewed the call to stop the works that was launched by EN's President Plácido Domingo in the main Italian daily Corriere della Sera last December. In his heartfelt personal appeal Domingo highlighted that transforming this piazza into a roof of a massive underground garage would be hardly compatible with the historical and artistic heritage of a place that the culture of the world admires and wants to see preserved in its integrity.
