THE PRESIDENT OF THE PORTUGUESE REPUBLIC WELCOMES EUROPA NOSTRA AT THE PALáCIO NACIONAL DE BELéM

On Wednesday, 30 May, participants of the European Heritage Congress in Lisbon visited the Palácio de Belém, the official residence of the President of the Portuguese Republic, His Excellency Mr Aníbal Cavaco Silva. In 2008 the publication and exhibition ‘Do Palácio de Belém’ were awarded with a medal in Category 2 Research for the rigorous inventory and results of outstanding quality. After a guided visit of this remarkable historic building and its gardens, the Congress delegates had the honour to be welcomed in person by the President of the Portuguese Republic and the First Lady.
On this occasion, Denis de Kergorlay, Executive President of Europa Nostra handed over to the President the first copy of the “Portugal special” of the Europa Nostra’s Magazine “Heritage in Motion” which was produced on the occasion of the Congress.
H.E. Mr Aníbal Cavaco Silva, President of the Portuguese Republic, also kindly granted his Patronage to the entire European Heritage Congress and the European Heritage Awards Ceremony in Lisbon. Together with the First Lady, he also attended and spoke at the Awards Ceremony at the Jeronimos Monastery on 1 June (for more details click here).
