CULTURAL HERITAGE NGO'S IN TURKEY - SOME EXAMPLES

A regular feature of the Annual Congress, the presentation of local and national Cultural Heritage NGOs took place on Saturday morning 12 June in the Archaeological Museum of Istanbul. There were varied presentations on the safeguarding and re-use of Turkey’s historical heritage, on educational and awareness-raising programmes for children and youth, and on heart-wrenching cases of heritage in peril, including on the destroyed neighbourhood of Sulukule, adjacent to Istanbul’s City Walls, and on Allianoi, the subject of a long running EN campaign to save it from drowning in a reservoir. The presentations were as appreciated by the NGO participants themselves happy to finally meet each other, as they were by the other Congress participants.
