Europa Nostra’s 60th Anniversary Summit in Venice, 27-30 September 2023

The celebration of Europa Nostra’s 60th Anniversary in 2023 represents the perfect occasion to capitalise on the unique contribution of our organisation to the preservation of cultural heritage in Europe and beyond, and to demonstrate our firm commitment to respond creatively and forcefully to many challenges our society and environment are facing today. The choice of Venice as the host city of our 60th of Anniversary European Cultural Heritage Summit represents in itself a symbol of our dedication to a value-based and culture-driven Europe.

We want to celebrate with all of you in our beloved, but endangered World Heritage City of Venice. Our President Cecilia Bartoli will be with us in person and many other high-profile guests and supporters, including the highest representatives of EU Institutions, are ready to join us.

Let us give you some flavour of the programme which we are currently busy preparing with the support of many partners.

The Heritage Excellence Day with presentations by the 2023 winners of the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards will take place on 28 September.

On the same day, after our 60th Anniversary General Assembly to be held at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco with stunning paintings by Tintoretto, we will be hosted by one of our generous and devoted members in a fabulous Palazzo on the Grand Canal for a candle light evening to sing “Happy birthday to you, Europa Nostra”.

29 September is reserved for our European Heritage Policy Agora followed in the evening by our European Heritage Awards Ceremony. Our meetings will take place in venues belonging not only to our shared cultural and historic heritage, but also to contemporary creativity.

We will have free time to enjoy the city and its rich cultural programmes and offers, but also to participate in some exclusive initiatives that will allow you to discover unknown campi and calli. One of them: Alberto Toso Fei, the Venetian storyteller, and Desi Marangon, an epigraphist, will organise a Treasure Hunt to ancient graffiti in Venice: culture, heritage and fun are guaranteed!

The Summit is organised in the frame of our network project European Heritage Agora co-funded by the European Union.

As usual, we are making arrangements with some hotels to provide you with a memorable stay, in pre-selected accommodation facilities.

Stay tuned for more detailed information and be ready to pack up and join us in Venice, according to many the most beautiful city in the world!
