SOS: Sign this Petition Against Large Cruisers in the Venice Lagoon

Venice and its amazing heritage remain endangered, not only by forces of nature but increasingly by development projects which are not respectful of its cultural heritage and natural environment. The Italian government will soon decide whether to allow a new canal to be built in the Laguna so that large cruise ships can enter the Laguna and disembark thousands of tourists, the number of which is constantly rising.

Italian heritage organisations and citizens of Venice are advocating alternative solutions through sustainable projects that could bring tourists to Venice without threatening the fragile existence of the city and of the Laguna.

They have therefore prepared a new online petition addressed to the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi (who visited Venice on 3 May 2015), to the President of the Regione Veneto and to the Mayor of Venice (who shall be elected on 31 May 2015).

Upon the strong recommendation of Italia Nostra, we invite you to express your solidarity with the Italian heritage movement and with the concerned citizens of Venice by signing the petition.

This will take only 2 minutes of your time. You just need to insert your email address under: ‘Inserisci il tuo indirizzo email’ and press ‘Invia’
Please also spread the word about this petition among your own circle of members/contacts/friends and encourage them to sign it as well.

As of today, more than 100.000 citizens have signed this petition.
