Europa Nostra elected as Founding Steering Committee Member of the new Davos Baukultur Alliance

The start of 2023 welcomed a new and strengthened commitment to implementing high-quality Baukultur in Europe and beyond. During the second Conference of European Ministers of Culture, which took place in Davos from 14-16 January, the public and private sector came together to launch the Davos Baukultur Alliance. Europa Nostra was elected as one of the nine Founding Steering Committee Members of the Alliance for a period of five years.

Ministers of Culture from 31 European countries along with civil society organisations and major companies from the building and real estate industry attended the conference. The Secretary General of Europa Nostra, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, signed the Founding Act of the Davos Baukultur Alliance on behalf of the organisation.

Europa Nostra was among the signatories of the Davos Declaration in 2018 and has fully endorsed it ever since. We are now honoured to be part of the Davos Baukultur Alliance as a Founding Steering Committee Member. It is our joint responsibility to advance high-quality Baukultur and ensure a more sustainable coexistence of people, the built environment and nature”, stated Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović.

In his opening speech, Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation, ensured that “Good Baukultur has never been as important as it is today. There can be no sustainable development without it”.

The Davos Baukultur Alliance will pursue the goals set out in the Davos Declaration “Towards a high-quality Baukultur for Europe”, adopted during the first ministerial conference in 2018. The Declaration promotes the ethical and aesthetic concept of a high-quality living environment and highlights the central role of culture in our built environment.

Working groups within the Alliance will discuss issues such as the circular economy, energy efficient renovations and a certification system, and jointly develop proposals for how to proceed. The Alliance will be chaired for five years by Switzerland, with its secretariat operating within the World Economic Forum.
