Europa Nostra participates as content partner in the Delphi Economic Forum, Greece
The 7th edition of the Delphi Economic Forum (DEF) is taking place from 6 to 9 April 2022. Every year in the ancient city of Delphi, Greece, the forum gathers top leaders from across sectors in an effort to spark dialogue, inspire change and transform conversation into action. Europa Nostra proudly figures as a content partner of this year’s forum and will be represented by its Secretary General, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic, and the Head of its Brussels Office, Jimmy Jamar.
Europa Nostra will contribute to 4 heritage-related events organised in the framework of the Delphi Economic Forum VII:
Thursday 7 April, 13.15 – 14.00 CET (14.15 – 15.00 EEST)
The Spirit of the Place: Preserving the cultural and natural landscape of the world heritage site of Delphi – In memory of Costas Carras (physical attendance only)
European Cultural Center of Delphi
This event is organised by Europa Nostra in collaboration with ELLINIKI ETAIRIA – Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage (ELLET), Europa Nostra’s Country Representation in Greece. The nearby Archaeological Site of Delphi, inscribed by UNESCO in the World Heritage List in 1987, will be the perfect setting for a timely reference to this year’s 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention. In this unique location, participants will discuss why the spirit of the place should be considered an determining factor for the preservation and valorisation of a heritage site. The event will be dedicated to the memory of the late Costas Carras, a leading figure of both ELLET and Europa Nostra, who has devoted more than 50 years of his life to the protection of cultural and natural heritage in Greece and Europe.

Climate Change impacts on cultural and natural heritage (physical attendance only)
European Cultural Centre of Delphi
This event will have the form of a short discussion between George Kremlis, Principal Advisor to the Greek Prime Minister, for Energy, Climate, Environment and Circular Economy, and the Secretary General of Europa Nostra. Sneška Quaedvlieg–Mihailović and George Kremlis virtually shared the floor at the COP26 event “Addressing climate change impacts on cultural and natural heritage: The Way Forward”, organised by the Greek Government.

In Conversation: Promoting a value based Europe
European Cultural Centre of Delphi
During this event organised by Europa Nostra, its Secretary General, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, will engage in a conversation with the Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Promoting our European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas, and with renowned journalist and author of bestsellers on history, heritage and the spirit of a place, with a particular affection for Greece, Victoria Hislop. This conversation will take place in the frame of the Call for citizens’ debates on the future of Europe in heritage sites launched by Europa Nostra as a contribution to the Conference on the Future of Europe.

Overtourism and the struggle for sustainable tourism
European Cultural Centre of Delphi
This event, organised by ELLINIKI ETAIRIA – Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage (ELLET), will focus on the negative effects of mass tourism and the need for sustainable solutions to this global challenge, also visible in Greece. An interdisciplinary group of speakers will contribute to the discussion.

In parallel with contributing to the various events, Europa Nostra will have the opportunity to engage in a series of discussions with many global leaders and stakeholders, including a meeting with the Mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannis regarding the future establishment of an Europa Nostra Regional Hub for South-East and Eastern Europe in Athens.
On this occasion, Europa Nostra is looking forward to creating stronger ties in Greece, especially with the European Cultural Center of Delphi and with the World Human Forum, also based in Delphi.
