Capacity Building Days 2019, Athens

After the successful Future is Heritage Summit in 2018, Europa Nostra, Erfgoed Brabant and Erfgoed Gelderland (NL) are co-organising the Capacity Building Days for Young Heritage Professionals. The conference, receiving the support of the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, focuses on intergenerational exchange and ways to improve opportunities for young people who are active in the European heritage field.

The Capacity Building Days 2019 take place in Athens, Greece, from 17-20 June. The programme includes local case-studies, excursions and debate sessions in the following working themes:

  • Rural Heritage
  • Contested Heritage
  • Heritage & Activism
  • Heritage & Social Cohesion
  • Urban Heritage


Programme

Day 1: 17 June 2019

16:00 – 17:45
Registration of Young Heritage Professionals & Short Introduction
Venue: Elliniki Etairia, 28, Tripodon Street, Plaka, Athens

Followed by Welcome drinks.


Day 2: 18 June 2019

09:00 – 16:30
Parallel activities:

  • Working sessions on Rural Heritage, Urban Heritage, Contested Heritage, Heritage & Activism, Heritage & Social Cohesion with existing case-studies from the Netherlands, Greece and other countries, in intergenerational teams accompanied by experts.
    Venue: University History Museum, 5 Tholou, Plaka, Athens
  • Contested Heritage visit to the Royal Estate of Tatoi heritage in danger site accompanied by the expert Costas Stamatopoulos, Vice-President of Elliniki Etairia.
  • Urban Heritage excursion to the Plato’s Academy Archaeological Park.

18:00 – 22:30
Cultural Programme in Marathon: including a heritage walk of the ‘Paths of Culture’, readings from Herodotus’ account of the battle of Marathon by famous actor, Iannis Simonides, picnic dinner by the sea.


Day 3: 19 June 2019

Continuation of the Working Sessions on the 5 themes and case studies
Venue: Ionic Centre, Lyssiou 11, 10556 Plaka, Athens

16:30 – 18:30
Joint Closing Session with presentations of the working themes conclusions by the Young Heritage Professionals and with the participation of the Board and Council members of Europa Nostra

Day 4: 20 June 2019

09:00 – 11:30
Guided visit of the Acropolis, by Fani Mallouchou-Tufano, Council Member and leader of the Committee overseeing the conservation of the Acropolis monuments.
