Conference on Fostering European Cooperation for Cultural Heritage at Risk, Dubrovnik

The international expert conference “Fostering European Cooperation for Cultural Heritage at Risk” will be held from 26-28 February 2020 in Dubrovnik as part of Croatia’s EU Council Presidency.

One of the priorities of Croatia’s EU Council Presidency in the field of culture is the preservation of cultural heritage, and in particular the management of risks in cultural heritage. Integrating risk management in the field of cultural heritage is essential in the day-to-day functioning of institutions and society, despite the diminished human capacity and high commitment of professionals. The European Union has also, in cooperation with a number of prominent governmental and non-governmental organizations, highlighted the area of cultural heritage as one of its priorities in the last decade.

The topic of the conference aims to generate discussion on an expert theoretical level about the methodology of research and assessment of all types of risks in order to facilitate the decision-making process in preservation and use of cultural heritage, and the optimal use of resources.

Europa Nostra will be represented in the conference by its Secretary General, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, who will deliver a keynote speech on “Civil Society, a Vital Partner for Europe’s Mobilization to Save Endangered Heritage”.

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Culture with the support of the European Commission, the City of Dubrovnik, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.
