Europa Nostra annual congress in Istanbul
Preparations are in full swing for our 2010 Annual Congress, which will take place during this year where Istanbul is one of three 2010 European Capitals of Culture. It will offer participants a programme of exciting events taking place in world renowned heritage venues within the historic Süleymaniye Quarter of the city.
Board and Council meetings, the General Assembly and the yearly Scientific Council Colloquium are planned, as well as a photo exhibition of heritage Award winners, our regular Forum Multiple Identities – A Common Heritage (11 June) and what promises to be a spectacular European Heritage Awards Ceremony (10 June). These events will be complimented by a variety of congress tours, receptions and dinners to ensure that participants flavour Turkey’s cultural heritage to the fullest!
Under the tireless coordination of Board member Orhan Silier and his team, our Annual Congress is shaping up to be a great success. Thanks also are given for the important grant Mr Silier has secured from the Istanbul 2010 Agency to support the congress and the related launch of Europa Nostra’s country representation in Turkey.
The Annual Congress will be preceded by the organisation in April and May of four NGO panel discussions the aim of which will be to allow to the Turkish heritage NGO community to meet representatives of a number of heritage NGOs from the Netherlands, France, Germany and United Kingdom and learn more about their experience. These full day meetings will be organized by Dr Orhan Silier and his Istanbul team in cooperation respectively: a) with Erfgoed Nederland and the Dutch General Consulate in Istanbul (9 April); b) with Europa Nostra’s Executive President, Denis de Kergorlay, the EN International Secretariat and the French Cultural Centre in Istanbul (20 April); c) with Europa Nostra Deutschland (7 May) and d) with Europa Nostra’s Executive Vice-President John Sell, Europa Nostra UK and the British Council in Istanbul (22 May).
