UNESCO International Conference “Cultural Heritage and Peace: Building on 70 years of The Hague Convention”

The UNESCO International Conference “Cultural Heritage and Peace: Building on 70 years of The Hague Convention” will take place from 13 May at 17:00 (CEST) to 15 May 2024, in The Hague. This event is co-organised by UNESCO and the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with the support of the City of The Hague.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of its signature, the conference will be the opportunity to examine the future orientations of the 1954 Hague Convention, and its two Protocols (1954 and 1999), the first international legal framework entirely dedicated to the protection of movable and immovable heritage.

The welcoming ceremony will be hosted by the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 13 May from 17:00 to 20:00, at the Peace Palace, house of the International Court of Justice.
During the two following days, the International Conference will take place at the World Forum, an international conference centre, with a closing ceremony on 15 May around noon.

Attendees will be invited to a cultural showcase and reception at the Mauritshuis Museum, after a first day on plenary sessions, on 14 May.

Europa Nostra is one of the various stakeholders involved in the protection of cultural property invited to the conference.
