Geneva: Europa Nostra visits ALIPH headquarters
On 17 June, Europa Nostra Secretary General, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, and Europa Nostra Treasurer, Philippe de Cossé-Brissac, paid a visit to the headquarters of ALIPH in Geneva to discuss the ever-growing partnership between our two organisations. During this visit, excellent talks were held with Valéry Freland, Director of ALIPH, and his team on the implementation of the current Europa Nostra activities which benefit from the support of ALIPH and on prospects for future opportunities to join voices and forces in support of endangered heritage in Europe and beyond.
Inspiring day with our partner @ALIPHFoundation at their office in Geneva. It is a privilege to work with such a dream team led by @frelandv in support of endangered heritage in Ukraine, Moldova, Western Balkans & the Caucasus as well as to promote culture-based climate action. pic.twitter.com/gAlW61xvhs

On 29 November 2023, the very day when Europa Nostra marked its 60th anniversary at Hôtel de la Marine in Paris, winner of a European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2023, Europa Nostra and ALIPH signed two important agreements: one on the support by ALIPH to the Small Grants Scheme set up within the framework of the European Heritage Hub pilot project, and one with regard to the activities related to promoting a culture-based climate action within the UNFCCC framework at the COP 28 in Dubai.
In the meantime, 14 civil society-led projects selected among as many as 600 submissions to receive the European Heritage Hub Small Grants were announced and these projects will start their implementation. They demonstrate an ever-growing mobilisation of civil society in support of cultural heritage in Western Balkans, in the Caucasus and also in Ukraine and Moldova. Following the exemplary initial support of ALIPH for this new initiative, Europa Nostra will explore possible additional partnerships and sources of funding that would allow further support for civil society-led action related to heritage in the above-mentioned regions.
Europa Nostra and ALIPH discussed ways to continue working together on mobilising adequate support for culture-based climate action in Europe and in the UNFCCC framework.
We also discussed the opportunities for joint advocacy in support of cultural heritage as a key resource within the framework of the European Political Community and also within the future external relations agenda of the European Union. The latter will be the topic of the Conference which will be organised by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU on 9 September in Brussels at which both Europa Nostra and ALIPH were invited as speakers.
