On POLITICO’s EU Confidential podcast “Growing pains: Can the EU handle enlargement?” released on 14 November, host Sarah Wheaton spoke with Europa Nostra’s Secretary General about why Europe won’t feel complete until its whole cultural family is reunited. Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović covered her background as someone who grew up in the former Yugoslavia to her case for why the European Union must recognise the power of our shared cultural heritage and values.
“The European integration process has a fundamental cultural dimension. The more organisations are connecting with the countries like Ukraine and Moldova, in the Western Balkans, the more exchanges that you organise with scientists, the academic community, the cultural community, the better,” stated Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović.
“The entire European Union needs to understand that this is the most important power of Europe — our shared values. Of course, the economy is an important tool, and defence we also need. But we cannot make compromises when it comes to values,” she emphasised.
