Leading national and European media outlets release articles and interviews on key topics featuring representatives of Europa Nostra

News articles and interviews on key topics featuring representatives of Europa Nostra were released by leading national and European media outlets from September to November 2025.

An audiovisual news piece on the destruction of cultural heritage in Ukraine featuring an extensive interview with Europa Nostra’s Executive President Hermann Parzinger was released by TVP World, Poland’s leading English language broadcaster, on 21 September.

The audiovisual news piece “What is the EU actually doing to protect Europe’s cultural heritage? featuring an extensive interview with Europa Nostra’s Secretary General Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović was broadcasted by ARTE, the European culture TV channel, on 27 September.

On POLITICO’s EU Confidential podcast “Growing pains: Can the EU handle enlargement?” released on 14 November, host Sarah Wheaton spoke with Europa Nostra’s Secretary General about why Europe won’t feel complete until its whole cultural family is reunited. Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović covered her background as someone who grew up in the former Yugoslavia to her case for why the European Union must recognise the power of our shared cultural heritage and values.

The European integration process has a fundamental cultural dimension. The more organisations are connecting with the countries like Ukraine and Moldova, in the Western Balkans, the more exchanges that you organise with scientists, the academic community, the cultural community, the better,” stated Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović.

The entire European Union needs to understand that this is the most important power of Europe — our shared values. Of course, the economy is an important tool, and defence we also need. But we cannot make compromises when it comes to values,” she emphasised.

Ekathimerini, the English edition of Greece’s leading daily newspaper Kathimerini, published an interview with Europa Nostra’s President, entitled ‘Culture is not a luxury – it’s a necessity’, on 7 November. Cecilia Bartoli speaks about what Europa Nostra winning the 2025 Empress Theophano Prize means to her, and why celebrating our shared cultural heritage is ever more important in today’s divisive climate. “Europa Nostra constantly reminds us of this: Our shared cultural heritage – tangible and intangible – can build dialogue, enhance harmony, and promote solidarity, she emphasised.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Germany’s leading daily newspaper, published an article about the complex architectural and memorial significance of the Generalštab Modernist Complex in Belgrade, Serbia, featuring an extensive interview with Europa Nostra’s Secretary General, on 9 November. Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović shares her expertise based on Europa Nostra’s ongoing advocacy in support of the large campaign by experts and civil society to save this protected Modernist building. This building also forms part of the protected historic-architectural area located in the heart of Belgrade. This protected area covers the administrative centre of the State of Serbia for more than 100 years. “Whether [Generalštab] should become a ministry, a museum, or a university must be the subject of a serious and broad debate. But definitely not a Trump hotel, she highlighted.

In an interview with The Art Newspaper released on 24 November, Europa Nostra’s Secretary General highlights how in the case of the Generalštab Modernist Complex in Belgrade protecting heritage and preserving European values such as democracy go hand in hand.
