President of Europa Nostra interviewed by Austria’s National Public TV Station

The President of Europa Nostra, Maestro Plácido Domingo, gave an exclusive interview to the Austrian national public broadcaster ORF on 5 May, a few hours before the 2014 European Heritage Awards Ceremony at the Burgtheater in Vienna. The nine-minute interview was broadcast by ORF III during prime time that day.

In this interview, Plácido Domingo speaks about his dedication to the cause of heritage; highlights the responsibility of each and every European citizen to defend and raise awareness about our cultural heritage; and advocates for giving culture a more central place in European policy-making. Maestro Domingo also talks about his career and his strong ties to Vienna.

The interview was conducted by Peter Fässlacher, editor and presenter of the Kultur Heute programme. It was recorded at the House of Europe in Vienna, immediately after the press conference jointly held by the President of Europa Nostra and the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, Androulla Vassiliou.

The Austrian national public TV station ORF also covered the European Heritage Awards Ceremony. Two short news videos, featuring highlights of the ceremony and extracts from exclusive interviews – with Josef Ostermayer, Austrian Federal Minister for Arts, Culture, Constitution and Public Service, Commissioner Vassiliou, Alexander Kottulinsky, President of the Austrian Castles Association, and Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra – were broadcast during prime time the day after the event.

News features on the Awards Ceremony, the EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards and ‘The 7 Most Endangered’ monuments and sites in Europe for 2014 were also published by some of the principal Austrian printed and online media, such as the daily newspapers Der Standard, Kurier and Wiener Zeitung. Europa Nostra was also news in many media outlets from various European countries.
