Register now: 2014 The Best in Heritage and Global Heritage Forum in Dubrovnik

The Best in Heritage is the world’s only annual survey of award-winning museum, heritage and conservation projects. Organised under the patronage of the International Council of Museums and in partnership with Europa Nostra, it is supported by the City of Dubrovnik and the Croatian Ministry of Culture.

The pre-conference event “Dialogue Day” will be held on 25 September, in collaboration with the eCultValue project and the European Museum Forum. The main programme will start on the evening of 25 September at the neo-baroque theatre Marin Držić, with the opening ceremony and the keynote address by Professor Gael de Guichen, world-renowned expert on conservation. Presentations of the award-winners will follow on 26-27 September, with projects from China, United States, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Canada, Russia as well as many European countries taking the stage.

The Global Heritage Forum, a joint-venture between Europa Nostra and the International National Trusts Organisation (INTO), will bring together senior representatives of top European and international heritage organisations and networks on 25 September.

The purpose of the Forum, which was launched in 2013, is to examine the challenging issues which globally confront the heritage sector and formulate a “Global Agenda for Heritage” for each year so that participating organisations can, when appropriate, cooperate and coordinate to better address the identified issues. This year’s focus is “constructive responses to unacceptable challenges”.

Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra, and Simon Molesworth, Executive Chairman of INTO, will lead the three working sessions and moderate the discussions. The presentation of the Global Heritage Forum initiative to all conference attendees will take place on 26 September at the theatre Marin Držić.
