Speech – Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović – Launch of the Climate Heritage Network Race to Resilience Campaign – COP26
Speech delivered by Europa Nostra’s Secretary General at the event A Culture of Resilience: Launch of the Climate Heritage Network Race to Resilience Campaign, co-organised by the Climate Heritage Network on 2 November 2021, in the framework of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) held in Glasgow, the United Kingdom.
“Europa Nostra is determined to contribute creatively and effectively to the ever-growing cultural movement for climate action in Europe and globally. We have therefore proudly and bravely accepted a challenging task to become the new regional Co-Chair of the Climate Heritage Network covering Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
We are fully aware of the huge responsibility ahead of us and look forward to working with all of you to further raise the impact and the outreach of our Climate Heritage Alliance, through campaigns and celebrations like the Race to Resilience campaign which we are launching today.
And now, it is my honour and great pleasure to introduce our next keynote speaker: HRH Princess Dana Firas of Jordan. Princess Dana is President both of ICOMO Jordan and of the Petra National Trust. She is also a proud and enthusiastic member of our informal network without borders called “Women4Heritage” which Europa Nostra launched on the occasion of this year’s International Women’s Day.
Since 2017, Princess Dana has acted as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage. This is a much-deserved recognition of your positive and strong leadership towards putting cultural heritage at the heart of sustainable development and climate action, in your country, in your region and globally. We look forward to running together with you the Race to Resilience to promote culture-based solutions for fostering climate resilient regions, cities and villages and their communities across the Globe.”
