Europa Nostra General Assembly 2024 held in Bucharest
The General Assembly of Europa Nostra was held on the morning of 8 October at the Carol I Central University Library in Bucharest in the frame of the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2024. The meeting was chaired by our Executive President, Hermann Parzinger, with the assistance of our Secretary General, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović.
In a heartfelt video message conveyed at the General Assembly, our President, Cecilia Bartoli, thanked all the members, partners and supporters of Europa Nostra as well as its governing bodies and the International Secretariat. “With your passion and commitment, we can build an ever-stronger case for the safeguard of Europe’s cultural heritage,” she stated.

The General Assembly paid tribute to two of the most dedicated and influential members of Europa Nostra: John Sell from the United Kingdom, former Executive Vice-President, who passed away on 30 May 2024, and Dineke de Koster from The Netherlands, former Treasurer, who passed away on 25 June 2024. Both John and Dineke are among the few European personalities who were granted the Europa Nostra Medal of Honour, our highest distinction, for their outstanding and generous contribution to the development of our organisation. Their lasting contributions to Europa Nostra and the broader heritage field will always be remembered.
Tribute was also paid to Prof. Dr. H. Yüksel Dinçer, President of Europa Nostra Turkey and Council member of Europa Nostra, who passed away on 16 September 2024.
Members handled relevant statutory matters, including the approval of the Annual Report 2023, the approval of the preliminary budget for 2025, which was presented by the Treasurer, Philippe de Cossé Brissac, and several important (re-) appointments to the Council and other governing bodies of Europa Nostra.
The Secretary General of Europa Nostra, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, presented the preparation of the Europa Nostra Strategic Plan for the next five years. She emphasised that the goals and priorities of the current Strategic Plan: Horizon 2025 are still relevant and that this plan must be fully implemented.
On the occasion of our General Assembly in Bucharest, Memorandums of Understanding for the establishment of two new Country Representations of Europa Nostra, in Romania and in Bulgaria, were signed.
