Europa Nostra Secretary General appointed as a Foreign Member of Istituto Veneto
At a annual ceremony held on 9 June at the iconic Doge’s Palace in Venice, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra, was formally appointed as a Foreign Member (socia straniera) of Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, a prestigious academic institution that for almost 200 years has promoted science, humanities and the arts in Venice and Italy as well as in Europe and globally.
“This is an honour and great responsibility both for me and for Europa Nostra. I look forward to our future collaboration promoting the key role of cultural heritage for a better and sustainable future for Venice and for Europe as a whole,” stated Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović.
The European history and significance of Venice, coupled with its breathtaking yet fragile beauty, has always been at the very heart of the mission of Europa Nostra – from 1963 to date. Europa Nostra and its Secretary General are committed to working with all stakeholders to improve the sustainability and liveability of this invaluable World Heritage site, for the benefit of its residents and also for the benefit of its visitors from all over the world.
Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović expressed her immense gratitude to the President of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, Prof. Andrea Rinaldi, and extended special thanks to Prof. Pierluigi Panza, Member of the Istituto, for proposing her candidature.
“Let me add my sincere thanks to all my Venetian and Italian colleagues and friends with whom I have developed a very close partnership and warm friendship in the course of almost four decades of my dedication to Europe and its heritage, values and ideals. They made me love the Italian language and culture, which occupy such a central place in the formidable corpus of Europe’s heritage, art, music, literature, film and design,” she emphasised.
