Edinburgh & The Borders

As the cradle of the Scottish Enlightenment in the 18th century, Edinburgh was famed as ‘The Athens of the North’ and attracted artists, architects and aesthetes as well
as men of letters, philosophers and scientists.

This is reflected in a number of great houses, many still lived in by the original families. Most of the houses on this itinerary are being opened specially for Europa Nostra and several contain world- class art collections.

We shall be staying in Edinburgh’s Georgian ‘New Town’ and on a ducal estate in the Borders.
