Winners of the destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Awards 2019 announced

The ‘Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism’ Awards enhance the visibility of European cultural tourism destinations, create a platform for sharing experience and knowledge and promotes networking between destinations. The 2019 edition of the Awards aimed to contribute towards the legacy of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018. The Awards contest was open to tourist destinations across Europe, to showcase their results and outputs in sustainable cultural tourism under seven categories. The winners were announced during the Award ceremony that took place in the Carmen de los Mártires Palace in Granada, Spain on 24 October.

The 2019 edition of this Awards scheme was organised by the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN) in partnership with Europa Nostra, the European Travel Commission (ETC) and the Network of European Regions for a Sustainable and Competitive Tourism (NECSTouR) – which are all members of the European Heritage Alliance 3.3 – and supported by Iter Vitis, Cultural Route of the Council of Europe. Given the success and great synergies of the first joint edition of the Awards in 2018, the four partner networks decided to build on this fruitful collaboration by launching a new edition.

The winners and runners-up were selected by a Jury composed of representatives of ECTN, the European Travel Commission, Europa Nostra, NECSTouR and the Directorate General for Education and Culture, European Commission, out of 55 applications received from 19 countries (4 non-EU). In the Jury, Europa Nostra was represented by Piet Jaspaert and Joseph Jammar.
